| Water Quality Monitoring
Microtel just completed a NASA Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Phase 1 study through Stennis Space Center to assess the suitability of using EO-1 satellite imagery to generate Chesapeake Bay water quality maps. We worked with Dr. Chein-I Chang, who runs the Remote Sensing Signal and Image Processing Laboratory at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC); and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) on this innovative and exciting project. Dr Chang is a recognized expert in satellite image processing, algorithm development, and has done extensive related work with various government agencies. Dr. Chang and the RSSIPL ( http://www.umbc.edu/rssipl/) provided algorithm development and tuning. Maryland DNR is a recognized leader in the use of automated ambient water quality monitoring systems. Maryland DNR provided water sampling services of satellite underflight areas which were used as ground truth data.
